2: How did that experience get you ready for your current job?
- It taught me that I shouldn’t just have a job, but I should have a purpose.
3: Did you have a teacher at any level that made a difference in your life?
- Two come to mind: My first grade teacher who wrote supercalafragelisticexpialadocious on a homework assignment that included coloring my family on a blank sheet of paper, freehand and with crayons and then writing their names, freehand with a fat pencil. I didn’t know what the word meant, but it looked long and impressive. Through this and many other exercises that year, she gave me something most people can only hope for from their first grade teacher-a huge dose of self worth and esteem.
Then Jack Shock, a professor at Harding U. This is what he taught me: the value of ethics, the magic of thinking and then thinking big, and how amazing it feels to move people and companies/organizations to change for the better. Read the rest of this entry »
Craig, our resident intern here at Rule29 had the pleasure of attending the AGI Student Conference in Chicago this past week, and like school we made him give us the following report on the conference that brought in several of the leading designers together from around the world.
The first day was full of lectures by some of the leading designers. Paul Sahre kicked off the day with his intelligently fun design. Paul showcased his favorite book designs, poster designs, and his recent entries into the art magazines Nozone and Faesthetic. Each summer, John takes a group talented young designers and gives them the incredible challenge of constructing their own projects for the betterment of a local social issue that they also need to choose on their own. Modeled after the Rural Studio, Project M has been a tremendous success and in both helping the local communities and spreading design’s role in society. Read the rest of this entry »
With a little inspiration from other Moleskine hacks I was inspired to come up with a version of that GTD style would work specifically for me. I came up with this as a starting point and it has been pretty successful. I plan to keep tweaking it as I go to make it work the best it can. The key to forming this habit into my work day has been to force myself into using it. I created categories that apply to my workflow and keep it in my hand at all times. I take it to meetings, keep it in front of me at my desk and bring it home every night. I would definitely give it a shot using your own workflow and ideas! In the end it feels good to still use “traditional” methods of pen and paper to stay organized and on task.
We get a lot of stuff shipped to us here at Rule29. Our favorite items are packaged in what many would consider the most beautiful musical instrument in the modern age – bubble wrap. Our new blinds came with a plethora of bubble wrap to keep them in one piece. While we are grateful they arrived whole, we may have enjoyed the packaging more…
What is your favorite way to pop bubble wrap?Jump on it? Roll it over with a chair? Drop a pumpkin on it?
